I think one of the marks of a great movie is the ability to take a very divisive issue and put a different twist on it than we are used to. October Baby does this well. This movie, which releases today, tells the story of Hannah, a college student, who has battled health issues her whole life. Through a series of circumstances, she finds out she is adopted (her parents never told her) and that she survived her biological mother’s attempt to abort her at 24 weeks.
October Baby follows Hannah’s attempt to piece her life back together through the help of some close friends. The purpose of this movie is not to marginalize or demonize, but celebrate the beauty of an unintended life. I encourage you to go see October Baby and bring your teens with you. It may open up a new perspective on life. After you see it, please let me know your thoughts.
