#073: 3 Strategies for Turning Trials into Triumphs

2 min read

facing adversity

Life is full of blitzes that can really hit us hard. Loss of a job, a health issue, a marriage issue. So how do we turn those trials or blitzes into triumphs? Former NFL quarterback Jeff Kemp knows how the worst moment in football can turn into the best. And he reminds us: “The quarterback may end up on his back, but the ball may end up in the end zone.”

In his book Facing the Blitz: Three Strategies for Turning Trials Into Triumphs, Jeff talks about his own personal blitzes: Getting benched and going from first string to third string; the loss of his father, Senator Jack Kemp, to cancer in just a four month period of time; running a nonprofit that ran out of money; and losing his professional football career at the age of 33.

But facing adversity can also benefit you! Jeff says, “The point of your blitz is to change, to grow, to mature. Maybe to become less selfish, more other-centered, more team-oriented, less individualistic. To see the bigger picture…there is a God that made you and you’re soul and not just a body. And your life has bigger significance than just what kind of comfortable circumstances you can amass.” The bigger picture is reflected in Jeff’s first strategy: Take a long-term view. Look beyond the first quarter of the game. So listen in to today’s podcast to hear all of Jeff Kemp’s 3 Strategies for Turning Trials into Triumphs.
