Why Do Couples from The Bachelorette Do So Much Better Than Those from The Bachelor?

In my recent blog post, A Message for The Bachelorette, Emily Maynard: Don’t Follow Your Heart, I talked about the importance of leading your heart instead.

And just today, I read comments from Author Steven D. Levitt who asks, “Why Do the Couples From The Bachelorette Do So Much Better Than Those From The Bachelor?”

He says, “Of the sixteen The Bachelor shows, only four relationships from the show lasted at least a year.  Only two couples are still together.  In contrast, five of the seven The Bachelorette seasons led to relationships that lasted at least a year. (Although only two of the couples are still together.)”

So, why do you think there is a difference? Does this give us any insight as to what men and women look for in a person and in a relationship? Please share your comments with me.

    Simple answer?  It is God’s design that a woman be pursued BY a man.

    All human endeavors that are solely based on human efforts are not for the long haul.  Humans have changeable, fickle and selfish hearts but when tempered with faith (even as small as a mustard seed) in God (our maker who knows us through and through and who has the best intentions for each of us), the promise of a lasting relationship is assured.

    Both shows have a terrible track record — just two lasting relationships each! As far as I’m concerned, they’re both equally BAD! It doesn’t appear that these reality television shows provide a proper environment for teaching or encouraging healthy or lasting relationships. They tend to be artificial and concocted, short-term, selfish, and superficial. They use other people shamelessly and are unabashedly self-serving!

    I think the real lesson is not to watch them or expect to learn anything from them that will lead to happiness or long-term relationships — unless we are hoping somehow to learn from their bad examples what NOT to do!
