What’s Your Identity?

How would you describe who you are?  Do you really know your true identity?  What does the iris of your eye have to do exclusively with your uniqueness?  Let’s get some answers.

Very good question but tough to answer! Who am I really? Need to think more about it!

When I have to say something about myself on a web page I always put the same thing, “child of God, wife, mother, daughter, friend.” That gives you the whole identity in one fell swoop.

I like what Henry said, this is a tough question. I think that who we are is much more than the standard superficial answer. After considering Mark’s blog, I like many others are superficial for privacy reasons. Yet I should be more honest and state something that relates to who I am through my values and ambitions.

I am a child of God Almighty, the King of Glory. That makes me His princess. When I remember this I am filled with a sense of His magnificient love, ny value to Him, and the truth that world can’t do anything to me that my Father doesn’t already know about and already have victory over. It also reminds me that what I do, say, think, all that I am refects my Father, and it makes me want to bring Him honor.

We can instill that in our children. They start as blank slates and we can fill them up with the proper identity and self-image. It takes persistent determination on the parents’ parts to keep that identity strong in the minds of their children.

No, I don’t believe I do. The trouble I have with this is I find it increasingly difficult to build and maintain confidence in anything without having a firm foundation that I can build on.I am very interested to see where this discussion goes. Thanks for what you do.

I know exactly who I am…. child of God, wife, mother, daughter, sister and good friend.  However, to folks that need to hear something impressive or when I feel like being flip-it about it, I state that I am the Director of Child Development at (last name) Inc.

For me, I have the best job in the world; one that I thought I would never be able to have; that being a Mom.

Often we tend to reflect and respond to questions about who we are from an egocentric perspective of this world; I’m a student, a teacher, a man, an American… I am honest, forthright, in need… a mother, father, daughter, son…

It is helpful to be reminded this this life is a very brief preparation for our eternal lives. Have faith, live in love and abide by truth. Each of us has infinite possibilites.

This is a very good question and if you go to my Facebook, I will post a poem that tells you who I’m not.
    I am a Christian.

Assuming that you know who you are, your answer will still vary according to the context your are in and the expectations that context has from you or you have from that context. For example, if you are in an interview situation, your answer will take the shape of what you think your interviewer wants to learn about you. I think that knowing who you are for yourself will shape the answer from the inside-out in a given context and not from the outside-in as is habitually expected.
The outside-in answer is the label the external world (or anyone in it) wants to use to categorize you rapidly so that your “uniqueness” is played down and so that “category” rules can be applied without difficulty. The reasons for this? Manipulation, control, efficiency, etc.I think Mark’s message is addressing our awareness to this issue: do you want to be known for who you are or to just be categorized? Here is where your uniqueness can shine or slide in anonymity. It is a moment by moment choice of saying what you stand for and in what manner….or not.Getting rid of external labels and acting according to your own deep-seated convictions, is what will bring out more of what God put in you to bring out into the world than the other way around.Thank Mark for the reminder!
