Great advice. It’s nice to be reminded how important it is to affirm our spouses. I will do this more for my husband this week! Thanks Mark!

Mark, what happens when you don’t find your spouse captivating?…

I’m not sure most men can use the word “captivating” about their wives, though I’m sure most wish they could. But I certainly agree with the idea of verbalizing to your wife positive and uplifting things you like about her. Sadly, I cannot seem to convince my wife I am sincere when I express positive feelings about her, she doesn’t seem to believe me. She knows I lover her but thinks I am being “untruthful” if I say I find her “cute” or “pretty”. Love truly is a choice and I choose to keep trying!

Hello, Mark…are you there? I’m waiting for your response…

Louis, although I’m not a counsellor, there are a few things that I’ve learned. One is that love is a choice. And when we choose to love our spouse with words and deeds our feelings often follow. Love is effectual. That is, it makes its object more lovely. If you make a decision to love her and show that love to her, you may end up finding her more captivating.

My wife and I have had a really hard past few years, which seems like we were in battle.  We’re now starting to communicate more, for the sake of our children having us both in the home.  But because so many mean words were said in the past, on both of our part, I’m having a really lost time trying to figure out how to speak romantic to her.  Can you give me some pointers on how to get started?
